A dog is killed approximately every 9 seconds. The tragic reality is that over 10 million animals are euthanized every year in the U.S. because they are abandoned and unwanted.
There are a tremendous amount of homless pets in need out there. Beacuse of this, we're big supporters of animal rescue here at Unleashed Pet Shop. There's nothing more rewarding than saving than saving the life of an animal in need.
We try to help promote awareness to our customers. We feature an adoptable pet on our website, in our email newslettters and on our rescue wall in the store. In fact we always ask people looking for puppies or kittens if they've considered rescuing and urge them to check the local shelters or look online at great sites like petfinder.com.
The following links will proivide more info on rescuing / adoption.
If you're not currently looking for a new pet, most rescue organizations are always looking for foster homes. These foster families generally provide a temporary home for pets while the rescue organization finds a forever home for them. In most cases the pets food and vet costs are covered by the rescue organization, but depends on their policy.
If you can't adopt or foster, rescue organizations are always looking for voluteers and donations.

For sure Dustin didn't deserve to be just a summer fling. But that's just what happened - adopted as a baby at the beginning of the summer and dumped as an older puppy at the end.
Dustin is a 5 month old boy who, like us, can't understand how his family could do that. He's fun-loving and sweet, walks well on a leash and wants to do all the right things. The breed mix is improbable, but with his short little legs, longer body, and shepherd-like coloring, we don't know what else to call him!!
If you can make Dustin believe in forever again, please click here to fill out an application.
Adoptions on our site are arranged by Little Pink Shelter.
An amazing rescue organization based in Westport, CT.
